Chamomile: The World’s Soothing Herb. It Calms Stress, Improves Sleep, Eases Colds & Much More

September 26th, 2010 -- Posted in Green Living, Healthy Eating, Natural Beauty, Natural Remedies | 1 Comment »

Chamomile is a wonder herb.A spoonful of chamomile tea — that’s what Peter Rabbit’s mother gave to put him to bed. Scientists have confirmed her wisdom.

Studies in animals have shown chamomile contains substances that act on the same parts of the brain and nervous system that anti-anxiety drugs affect, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

Chamomile, also known as manzanilla, has long been used as a home remedy to reduce stress, improve sleep, and alleviate complaints from colds to digestive upset to menstrual cramps. It is believed to contain more antioxidants than nearly any other natural dietary source.

A daily cup of steaming chamomile tea can be just as good for your skin as for your  stomach and psyche. Each day at the same time, take about 15 minutes to relax and drink a hot cup of chamomile tea. Breath the steam and hold your face toward the mug as you relax.

The steam will help open and clear your pores. Consciously relax the muscles in your face as your breath. This will help you break muscle habits that cause wrinkles, like furrowing your brow or squinting. continue reading »

Chrysanthemums are a joy to look at in the fall and there’s more to them than meets the eye. In fact, chrysanthemums have some powerful properties that can make big changes in your health.

The Chinese have utilized herbal remedies made from the chrysanthemum for thousands of years. The herb has been used as a medicine and as a beverage for centuries in China.

Chinese scientists have found that an extract of Chrysanthemum flower  could be a powerful cancer treatment. In a series of studies, a research team headed by Professor Zong-fang Li has reported that Chrysanthemum indicum extract (CIE) possesses antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory effects.

And, it can also kill human cancer cells through a process known as apoptosis.( World Journal of Gastroenterology 2009, September issue).

CIE interferes with the growth cycles of malignant cells, ending the rapid spread of the cancer cells in the body. The extract reprograms cells to die instead of grow by rewriting their mitochondrial code. continue reading »

Got Ice Cream? Got Artificial Growth Hormones?

September 14th, 2010 -- Posted in Green Living, Healthy Eating, Uncategorized, Weight Loss | No Comments »

Cancer-causing artificial growth hormones are not listed on labels, which means they could be in products you may not suspect, like your favorite ice cream.

I don’t drink milk, however once in a while I love to treat myself with the ice cream, Haagen Dazs.  My family have been buying Breyers for some time now, thinking that it is “all natural. That is the way they state on the packaging. How wrong we are.

Apparently many big ice cream makers in the U. S.,specifically Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin- Robins, continue to use milk from cows injected with rBGH, a hormone that’s been banned in Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia and all 27 nations of the European Union.

What on earth is wrong with our country? The USDA needs to step up to the plate here. continue reading »

Eat Blackberries To Feed Your Brain & Improve Memory

Grab a handful of blackberries if you want to slow down the hands of time and boost your brain’s ability to retain and recall information.

You know that a healthy brain depends on healthy eating. Some foods boost brain power and function more than others. Blackberries are  an excellent source of nutrients which nourish the brain and the body.

They provide the necessary nutrition the brain needs, such as folate to stimulate the brain, omega-3 fatty acids to enhance the brain’s function, and tryptophan, which provides needed serotonin and can relieve depression and insomnia.

Besides, the anthocyanins found in blackberries can prevent degenerative brain diseases. The older we get the harder it is to learn new things.

The reason? In order to process new information our brain cells need to “talk” to each another. Yet, as we age those cells become inflamed making it harder for them to communicate with one another.

Blackberries can get the conversation flowing again. According to a 2009 Tufts University study blackberries have powerful antioxidants (polyphenols) that help to stop inflammation and encourage your brain to soak up new information. continue reading »
