Far Healthier Way To Increase Your Energy Than Those Toxic Veggie Burgers
Veggie burgers are nutrient dense food that increases your energy with protein, complex carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
They are very low in total and saturated fats while providing small amounts of good fats such as polyunsaturated and mono-saturated oils as well as being an excellent source of Omega 3’s.Unrefined plant foods found in veggie burgers release their energy to the blood stream slowly over time.
But, it turns out that there are good veggie burgers and bad veggie burgers. A study by the Cornucopia Institute says that non-organic veggie burgers often contain the neurotoxin hexane, a petroleum byproduct that is bad for those who work with it and can cause explosions in wastewater and is an air pollutant.
A neurotoxin hexane is used to pull the fat out of soybeans to make many veggie burgers and it doesn’t seem healthy to the vegetarians. That’s probably not what the veggie-burger buyer is bargaining for. A lot of people who eat veggie burgers are doing so because they’re conscious of their food choices and the impact on the environment.
The Cornucopia Institute also revealed some popular veggie burger brands that absolutely do use hexane: Amy’s Kitchen, Boca Burger, Franklin Farms, Garden Burger, It’s All Good, Lightlife, Morningstar Farms, President’s Choice, Soy Boy, Taste Above, Trader Joe’s and Yves Veggie Cuisine.
Brands that do not use any hexane in their veggie burgers are: Helen’s Kitchen, Superburgers by Turtle Island, Tofurky, Wildwood and Morningstar “Made with organic”. And,
Andy Berliner, CEO and Co-founder of Amy’s Kitchen in her response email about using hexane writes:”Because of concerns around soy protein extracted with hexane, we have eliminated the use of any soy protein ingredient that uses hexane in its processing. Only four products (some of our veggie burgers) out of over 170 products have ever contained soy protein concentrate.
We have replaced soy protein concentrate in these products with organic tofu. Tofu production is similar to cheese making and uses no unnatural ingredients. Our best selling burger, the California Burger, has never contained soy protein of any kind”. Sounds very good to me.
I personally like the Sunshine Burger. It is based on raw sunflower seeds (no soy or wheat in it) and uses other whole grains and vegetables in it. It contains no funky ingredients — pure and simple ingredients only. I suggest trying it out next time you have the chance.
But the best way to increase your energy is to try homemade black bean veggie burger. You will never want to eat frozen veggie burgers again. These are so easy, and you’ll be proud to have created such a vegetarian delight.

Sounds wonderful. While I would not have a problem with the egg, my daughter is vegan-preferred so is there a suggestion for using this recipe without the egg? I am assuming that it is used to ‘bind’ the ingredients. When I make vegan waffles at home, I use nonfat tofu yogurt, which works fine but I’m curious about this recipe. I can try it and see how it comes out. Just sharing a thought with you regarding it since I know a lot of vegans would not use this recipe as is. Thanks!
