Tomatoes In The Fat Resistance Diet

Tomatoes are one of our favorite fat-burning foods. They help reduce inflammation and reverse leptin resistance.

Reversing leptin resistance is the key to losing those stubborn extra pounds. That is why tomatoes are used almost daily in The Fat Resistance Diet.

Tomatoes are generally known as an exceptional source of Vitamin C. You will find other vegetables, which have a much higher content of nutrients and vitamins.

However, there will be very few which offer a richer source of Vitamin C than the tomato.

This antioxidant plays a major role in boosting the human body’s immune system and has huge health benefit properties, such as prevention of cancer and heart diseases.

It is because the tomato also contains potassium, which is a very critical ingredient for preventing a stroke. Tomato also is rich in carotenoids and lycopene, which actively fight and prevent cancer.

Tomatoes are excellent sources of potassium and several vitamins:

  • folic acid
  • vitamin A
  • vitamin C
  • vitamin E

They also contain important anti-inflammatory nutrients called carotenoids and bioflavonoids. And,

Key tomato carotenoids are lycopene, a red pigment with potential anti-cancer effects, and beta-carotene, an orange pigment that is an important antioxidant to protect against damage from sunlight.

Bioflavonoids, which are concentrated in the tomato skin, counteract inflammation and allergic reactions.

Studies indicate that tomato consumption is associated with a reduced risk of:

  • prostate cancer
  • ovarian cancer, especially in premenopausal women
  • digestive tract cancers
  • cardiovascular disease
  • asthma and chronic lung disease

The absorption of carotenoids and flavonoids from tomatoes is greater from cooked tomatoes than fresh tomatoes, since cooking breaks down the tomato cell matrix and makes the carotenoids more available.

The addition of olive oil to diced tomatoes during cooking greatly increases the absorption of lycopene. Oil is essential for absorbing carotenoids from tomatoes in salads or salsa.

There is almost no absorption of these vital nutrients from salad eaten with a non-fat dressing.

Tests have shown that a single lycopene molecule can neutralize 13 free radicals. Eating pizza topped with tomato paste can help prevent sunburn and premature wrinkles, new research suggests.

A study found that volunteers who ate helpings of ordinary tomato paste over a 12-week period developed skin that was less likely to burn in the sun.

The effect of eating tomatoes was equivalent to slapping on a factor 1.3 sunscreen. Changes were also seen within the skin of the volunteers that counteract the appearance of aging.

Scientists think an antioxidant, lycopene, which gives tomatoes their color, can neutralize harmful molecules produced in skin exposed to the sun’s ultra-violet rays.

In order to enjoy all the health benefits that the tomato packs for you, you would need to ensure two things – (i) never store a tomato in the refrigerator, and (ii) never have a day pass without a tomato added in some way or other to your diet.

This is one vegetable that never looses its qualities, despite being cooked. Hence, you can have it both raw and cooked and still enjoy all the properties and characteristics that make the tomatoes so popular.

Yes, the tomato besides helping you to loose weight and stay healthy can also be used as a beauty aid.

Washing your face with tomato will give a very healthy glow to the face, side-by-side wiping away a good deal of the fine lines (if any) you have on the face.
